Formation of Metal Sponge Irons

During the production of iron ore pellets (IOP) at high temperature, iron oxides are reduced into metal iron without melting. This is a solid-state chemical reaction (reduction) under the involvement of reducing gas(es). Once at the begining of the reduction, metal iron crystal completed nucleation then grew up as needle-like crystals, but are lacking in sharp tips.
