Cat Litter

All cates possess a generational instinct: after relieving themselves, they instinctively bury their waste to conceal their scent and ward off potential predators. Consequently, pet owners must provide their cats with litter to accommodate this innate need. While natural sand absorbs moisture on its surface, its internal absorbency is typically quite poor. Thus, in response to the specific needs of cats and the growth of the pet industry, a diverse array of "cat litter"—granular products characterized by superior absorbency—has emerged. Early cat litter products were primarily composed of bentonite clay; however, the modern market now boasts a vibrant and extensive variety of options. Beyond traditional clay, materials used for production now include tofu, wood shavings, recycled paper, corn cobs, and tapioca. Yet, one constant remains: these products invariably consist of granular materials, making them easy for cats to manipulate. Although cat litter may seem like a minor detail, it entails a host of specific requirements: it must be porous and absorbent, feature an appropriate particle size, generate minimal dust, clump easily for convenient cleanup, remain free of unpleasant odors, be appealing to cats, and be economically practical.
