Doping MgO to alumina

Pure alumina particles are difficult to be sintered, especially to obtain high density alumina ceramics. Doping MgO to alumina matrix has been using to restrick the grain coarsening of alumina during sintering and remove micropores to increase the density of ceramic body. The mechanism can be explained as that by shortky defect model, when doping MgO into alumina matrix will resulting in increasing the vacancy of oxygen, therefore, reducing the diffusion of Al ions.

纯氧化铝颗粒难以烧结,尤其是要制备高密度的氧化铝陶瓷时。向氧化铝基体中掺杂MgO是一种常用手段,旨在抑制烧结过程中氧化铝晶粒的粗化,并消除微孔,从而提高陶瓷体的密度。这一机制可依据肖特基缺陷模型(Schottky defect model)进行解释:当MgO掺入氧化铝基体中时,会导致氧空位数量增加,进而抑制Al离子的扩散。
